Just in time for the 4th of July, these Babylegs will help your little one celebrate in style. Perfect for either a boy or a girl, these fun alternatives to pants will make any outfit patriotic. This looks like an ordinary, everyday teddy bear - but wait, looks can be deceiving. It’s actually an MP3 player designed specifically for babies and children. Designed to accompany your child to crib or bed at naptime or bedtime, the Lulla-Bear is a soft, cuddly friend who plays 90 minutes of pre-loaded songs and sounds. Lullabies, nature sounds, and play songs are all part of Lulla-Bear’s repertoire. With Lulla-Bear’s built in, stored USB cable, you can connect him to your computer and upload more songs to his playlist. It has a 512 MB memory capacity, is PC and MAC compatible, and takes three AA batteries (included). The sound quality is excellent, too. This could be the perfect solution if your child is a reluctant napper or becomes fearful or anxious at bedtime. Music soothes the soul, and has often helped my son get to sleep when nothing else would. You can purchase Lulla-Bear for $49.95 at StoreCrowleyJones.com.

If it wasn’t for ebay, Craigslist, and consignment shops, my son wouldn’t have half his wardrobe. Children’s clothing is so expensive that it makes sense to buy it in gently used condition whenever possible. Craigslist.org has many listings of large lots of babies’ and children’s clothes, and of course, ebay.com can’t be beat.
Recently I discovered another online resource for designer kids’ clothing: TheFullAttic.com. In addition to selling new designer clothes at good prices, the shop also carries gently used clothing from designers such as Ralph Lauren, Oililiy, and Juicy Couture. Items such as this Good Lad Jacket (pictured above), which is in gently used condition, sell for a greatly reduced price (in this case, just $8.99).
I’ve found that buying used clothing is a great way to buy pieces that your child might wear once or twice, like this one, for holidays or special occasions. Why pay a lot for something that your child won’t get much wear from? Then, when your child outgrows it, you can hand it down to a friend or family member, or sell it yourself on ebay or Craigslist. It’s also a great way to try out the more expensive designers that many people couldn’t afford new.

There is no shortage of products to help you celebrate your child’s first birthday, but there are fewer options for subsequent birthdays. If you are looking for a fun way to celebrate your little super-hero’s second birthday, check out this fun shirt that boldly proclaims TWO! Best of all, since it isn’t clearly birthday themed, it can be worn all year long. Moms and dads might get a little sympathy, too, since two’s are known for their antics. You can purchase one of these shirts for $28.95 at thesillywagon.com. It is made from 100% cotton.

While these Boy & Girl Diamond Pendants by Sydney Evan might not have the “bling” appeal of the ones by Marie-Chantal reviewed here, these would make very nice Mother’s Day gifts as well. Each pendant is made of 14K yellow gold set with a full-cut diamond with a weight of .01 carat. The chain measures 16 1/2 inches long, and, best of all, this gift is made in the USA. You can purchase the Girl or Boy Pendant for a much more reasonable price of $99.99 (down from $194.95) at RedEnvelope.com. This would be a great Mother’s Day gift for a new mom, your own mom, or even a new grandmother.

Here’s the ultimate Mother’s Day gift if you have money to burn. Marie-Chantal is selling these Diamond Pendants in Girl or Boy form especially for Mother’s Day. Each is approximately 0.45 carats in white or yellow gold. Priced at $1350.00, this would be the perfect gift for a new mother, but I’m sure you can find one that’s less expensive and just as nice. Need somewhere to put all those random items? Or perhaps something to fill and stick in your pre-teen daughter’s Easter basket? These Girls Drawstring Pouches by LittleMissMatched are colorful and happy alternatives to simple wallets or cell phone covers. I especially like them in orange dots. I’d stuff it with colored pens, chocolates, candy, or whatever small items I could find and mark it “With Love, The Easter Bunny.” I like to have all the fun I can with gift giving. At just $5, you can buy them in various colors and patterns.
If you’re looking for an alternative on a budget, lop off a sock, clean up the cut edge, and give it a drawstring ribbon around it. If you can knit, even better! Make a knitted pouch for your loved one or for yourself in any colors that please you.
This pouch is handy for in your purse or diaper bag; you can store all kinds of baby things inside, like pins for diapers, travel shampoos and creams. I’m willing to bet some bottles will fit inside, making them pretty and warmer to the touch for baby. I’d stuff box cars for my older son in it and keep it in the car or diaper bag. This would be very handy for keeping him occupied during unexpected long waits.

Here’s a great last minute Easter basket idea. I discovered these on the shelf at the store and fell in love with them. They look just like rubber duckies, but they are made of white chocolate. No word yet on how they taste, but our kids will each be getting one in their baskets this year. They are almost to cute to eat. It is likely too late to purchase online, but they are available in stores. I bought mine at CVS for .99 each. If you want to risk an online order, you can purchase one for $1.30 at BlairCandy.com. They’d be fun for other occasions, too.
