This Organic Grey Bamboo Branch Onesie from Small Plum recently caught my eye with its simple, yet very aesthetically-pleasing style. Grey is an unexpected choice for baby gear, but it looks great. Plus it’s made from bamboo, so it is ultra soft and eco-friendly. You’ll be doing your part to support the use of sustainable resources while no doubt enjoying many compliments. This little onesie is available in sizes from 0-3 months up to 6-12 months. It retails for $29.95. You can purchase one at sandboxcouture.com.

One of the things I like best about this Organic Zoe Ladybug Tee by Colette Kids is that it can be worn by a boy or a girl. Made of 100% USDA certified organic fine jersey combed cotton, the tee is an eggplant color (the website calls it “cinder”) and features a playful ladybug named Zoe. Each tee is screenprinted individually by hand, and also features a rib neckband for durability. Available in sizes 2T and 4T, you can purchase this cute t-shirt for $24 at ColetteKids.com.

Like many children, my son has sensitive skin. I’ve learned to buy laundry detergents free of chemicals and dyes, but sometimes, his clothes still bother his skin. That’s why I was anxious to try Cottonique’s line of allergy-free clothing for babies, toddlers and children. I decided to sample their boys’ underwear, as they lie right next to a child’s skin. The first thing I noticed about the boys’ briefs was that they were just that - brief. They were styled more like a bikini than the traditional briefs that I’m used to seeing. But once I touched them, they were the softest underwear I’d ever felt. The rough edges are sewn on the outside, not the inside, so as to avoid irritating the skin. The reason the underwear is so soft, according to the company, is that it’s made from 100% natural cotton, dye and chemical free, and pH balanced. This accounts for its off-white color. The clothing is also latex-free and spandex-free.
The only thing I didn’t like about the underwear was that they fit rather snugly - a notice that accompanied them in the box said that this was because they are not treated with flame-retardant chemicals, so they must fit snugly. My son said they were so comfortable he didn’t even remember he was wearing them. Time will tell if they hold up in the washer and dryer, or if they shrink too much to fit him. All in all, I’m very pleased with this Cottonique product. You can view all of their apparel at Cottonique.com, where the boys’ underwear I tried sells for $17.75 for a pack of three.

It’s amazing how many products you begin to accumulate in the medicine chest as soon as you have kids. That’s one of the reasons I like this multipurpose Derma-E Tea Tree and E Antiseptic Creme. With its pleasant tea tree oil scent, this cream calms skin without overwhelming the nose. You can use it on dry irritated skin, burns, diaper rash, you name it. It is easy to apply and isn’t greasy. Its eco-friendly formula is safe for use on kids of any age. You can purchase a 4 oz jar for $7.49 at LuckyVitamin.com.

Pure & Honest Kids is an attractive site with many great home page options, including “Gifts Under $50”, “Travel Must Haves”, and several other links to make shopping that much simpler. There’s a lot of stuff to get through on PureAndHonestKids.com so it’s a good thing they divide the site into categories. All the patterns and prints are a little confusing to the eye and it would be nice if they sectioned clothing into pants/shirts/etc. instead of lumping it all under designer names instead. It is a little easier to navigate the site by categories of boy/girl/infant boy/toddler boy/etc.
Did I find something up my alley at Pure & Honest Kids? I did like the Aqua Cable Hooded Sweater in sizes 12 and 24 months; I think it would go nicely with gray pants and a white tee. Pair it with cute shoes and call it an outfit! $32 and 100% Cotton, it’s a nice alternative to other hoodies.

Nudey!Rudey! is a company from New Zealand that makes cloth diapers, or “nappies.” They advertise them as being easy to use, pocket cloth nappies that use inserts (sold separately). This Ecochico cloth nappy has an outer covering made of hand-stamped hemp, an inner hidden lining with breathable, leak-proof PUL, and a soft layer of quick-wicking microfleece to help keep baby dry. It is stuffed with a combination of microfiber and hemp inserts and guaranteed to keep baby dry through the night. You can view all of Nudey!Rudey!’s nappies at NudeyRudeyCo.nz, where the Ecochico sells for $35.95 NZD (about $23 USD). Shipping is free if you have a New Zealand address. Bad news? Shipping is a flat rate of $30 NZD (about $18 USD) to the United States.

I’m always up for finding something I haven’t seen on babies previously. With these Organic Cotton Shoes, I think I’ve found just that. In sweet pink (but with tons of other color options, like chocolate with tan trim or sage green with tan trim) and sizes up to 12 months, these Mary Janes are the perfect accessory to go with baby’s prettiest dress, especially a knitted one, or with a cute tee, knitted cardigan, and jeans. It doesn’t really matter—dress ‘em up or down! Either way, I would slide these $16.99 shoes onto my baby’s feet in a heartbeat…if I had a girl! Lucky for me, they’ve got boy versions at OrganicallyHatched.com too.

Recently, I was directed to the site Toogaloo.com by an Upscale Baby reader, as they sell Heimess Dummy Chains. I had a look at the site and my eye landed on the Elastic Elephants toy ring. The ring is pretty, bright, and it’ll keep baby entertained on outings because it’s easy to clip to the buggy with the millions of colorful links toys most parents have around the house. Best of all, it’s 100% natural, $13.99, and there’s a matching dummy chain available (get a cute blanket with coordinating circles or elephants on it and you’ve got a great gift.)

GADBaby cloth diapers are designed to make diaper changes easier. With smart side snaps, the diapers are easier for parents to put on and take off, but harder for babies/toddlers to remove. The snaps are also adjustable to baby’s size and shape. Made with PUL, a waterproof fabric, on the outside layer, and bamboo velour on the inside, these cloth diapers are super soft. Plus, GADBaby cloth diapers are pocket diapers, and you can put an absorbent hemp insert in for the utmost in eco-friendliness. They come in a variety of colors and are guaranteed to be leak-free. You can view the diapers at GADBaby.com/blog, where they sell for $14.95.

Sleep bags and sacks are one of the safest ways to put baby down for a nap or at bedtime. When my son was a baby, I always used sleep sacks, with various weight fabrics for the different seasons. I like the looks of this Ergopouch Sleepbag.Made in Australia of quilted organic cotton with no pesticides or chemicals, the Ergopouch is hypoallergenic, perfect for baby’s sensitive skin. It adheres to all safety regulations. The seamless design of the Ergopouch moves with baby, as it fits snugly yet doesn’t allow baby to get tangled in the sack during sleep. Its double-ended zipper provides easy diaper changing access. It’s a bit steep at the price of $99.95 AUD (about $78 USD), but the manufacturer notes that, as babies spend most of their time in bed, they should do so in comfort, luxury, and safety. You can view the Ergopouch at StyledBaby.com.au, where if you purchase an Ergopouch right now, you can get a pair of Ergopyjamas at half price (use code “ergo” at checkout). They ship worldwide.

Here’s a wonderful gift for the eco-conscious parent-to-be on your gift-giving list. This Organic Swaddle Blanket Gift Set from ja-lu organics features an organic swaddle blanket and coordinating infant cap. The blanket trim is available in a number of fun fabrics perfect for boys or girls. The set is sewn in the USA and comes wonderfully-packaged for gift giving (if you aren’t tempted to keep it for your own little one). You can purchase a set for $60 at twolittlewhales.com.

I was walking through Target recently and saw these adorable organic cotton tees and yoga pants from Cherokee. They look great and appear to be as comfy as can be. I snapped them up for my middle daughter (seen here in her not-so-coordinating Crocs). She couldn’t stop talking about the tree on the front of the shirt, so I think she likes it. I can’t find these organic separates for sale on the Target Web site just yet, but you can pick them up in Target stores. I paid less than $14 for the outfit–a great deal for an organic set.

These whale soaps from Kiss My Face are a great, all-natural way to add fun to bath time. We have the Orange U Smart scent, and they are a big hit. My three year old loves the shape (which goes perfectly with her favorite musical dolphin tub toys), and I love the Earth-friendly, chemical-free aspect. You can purchase the 2-pack for $7.95 at kissmyfacewebstore.com. I also found them at my local Target store.

When my son was a baby, organic baby food wasn’t found in stores. I didn’t know to look online, however, as I was not quite as Internet-literate as a new mom as I am now that I’m the mother of a preschooler. If I had found Petite Palate’s Organic Baby Food back then, I might have given it a try. Recently I had a chance to “sample” their variety pack, and my “test group” found it to be highly palatable! Consisting of my 5 year old son, my friend’s one year old, my three year old nephew, and myself, the test panel sampled Petite Palate’s Variety Pack: Banana Peach Blend, Apple Pear Blend (a favorite of everyone in the group), Spinach Potato Puree, Split Pea, Garnet Yams, and Lentil. While the fruit flavors drew high marks from everyone, even the vegetable purees were easy for kids who are not usually veggie lovers to eat. I like the fact that everything in Petite Palate’s food is organic and nutritious, and that it’s packaged in eco-friendly sustainable 4 oz. paper cups. Created by moms who are also chefs, Petite Palate is a great way to start baby on a nutritious road that will last for the rest of his life. You can purchase the Variety Pack for $20.88 at Amazon.com.

Sometimes I find that wooden toys look a little dull. Though I love the idea of an eco-friendly play room, I just wonder if my boys would be interested in playing with wooden cars and blocks for very long. However, when I found the Playsam line of race cars and airplanes, I was convinced that wooden toys can be attractive. These toys are shiny and sleek and eye-catching. I adore the Playsam Jetliner in Black. Though you can’t give it to children under 3, imagine a play room filled with offerings this glossy and streamlined. It would give a modern feel to the room and entice even the adults to touch and ooh over the toys. The only downfall? The price tag is $75 CAD (about $63 USD). You certainly do pay for quality, folks. Buy this jetliner for your little pilot at inhabitshop.com.
