This Gus & Max Ultrasoft Sleep Sack looks as cozy as can be. I am a huge fan of sleep sacks and am saddened that my newly mobile daughter is now unhappy in them. This one is available in five different colors, including a great shade of orange that I love, and is made from poly chenille. It has an opening for a five point harness, so you can take it along in the stroller, etc. It is produced using eco-friendly practices and without harsh dyes. You can purchase one for $36 (half price) at allmodernbaby.com.

Sleep sacks are a safe and practical way to keep little ones warm and toasty at night, but there is no reason that they have to be traditional in appearance. I recently stumbled upon these sacks from Olli + Lime, and I am absolutely in love with them. The bright colors and modern pattern are just not what you expect in baby wear, and yet they work beautifully. Any of the three colors choices would work on either a boy or a girl. They are made of 100% organic cotton sateen for safety and comfort. This is definitely a bit of a luxury item, however. Be prepared to spend $80 if you want one for your little girl or guy. You can get one at babygeared.com. Each bag is made in the USA.

Sleep bags and sacks are one of the safest ways to put baby down for a nap or at bedtime. When my son was a baby, I always used sleep sacks, with various weight fabrics for the different seasons. I like the looks of this Ergopouch Sleepbag.Made in Australia of quilted organic cotton with no pesticides or chemicals, the Ergopouch is hypoallergenic, perfect for baby’s sensitive skin. It adheres to all safety regulations. The seamless design of the Ergopouch moves with baby, as it fits snugly yet doesn’t allow baby to get tangled in the sack during sleep. Its double-ended zipper provides easy diaper changing access. It’s a bit steep at the price of $99.95 AUD (about $78 USD), but the manufacturer notes that, as babies spend most of their time in bed, they should do so in comfort, luxury, and safety. You can view the Ergopouch at StyledBaby.com.au, where if you purchase an Ergopouch right now, you can get a pair of Ergopyjamas at half price (use code “ergo” at checkout). They ship worldwide.

We are hooked on sleep bags at our house. I don’t feel like my baby is properly dressed at night without one. As the weather gets warmer, out trusty dusty Carter’s and Passport bags are getting too warm. Aden and Anais has a great reputation for its blankets and swaddlers, so when I saw that they make a lightweight muslin sleep bag, I had to know more. I discovered they make all kinds of fun prints (not surprising I guess, given their reputation and popularity with celebrity families). There are some great feminine prints, but my favorite is this gold fish print which is perfect for either a boy or girl. You can purchase one from the company’s Web site (adenandanais.com) for $29.95. I saw some cheaper prices online, but those stories had a more limited selection of prints. I know this is on our short list of things to buy this summer.

I really like this Organic Sleepy Time Baby Gift Box by GrowInStyle.com. While the price might be a bit much for an average baby gift, at $164, it would be perfect for a family member or best friend who just had a baby. The gift box includes an Organic Cotton Hooded Towel by Kate Quinn Organics, Organic Cotton Sleep Sack by Ceewee Baby, Organic Cotton Monster Wash Mitt by Bebop Baby Shop, Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash by Earth Mama Angel Baby, Angel Baby Oil by Earth Mama Angel Baby, Rainbow Baby doll from Kathe Kruse, and a sleepy time book, Down in the Woods at Sleepytime by Carole Schaefer & Vanessa Cabban. All of this comes packaged in a 100% recyclable gift box, wrapped with recycled gift wrap, recycled ribbon, and a lead-free pewter charm. CoZibug is a new line of eco-friendly hooded towels, sleep sacks, velcro swaddles, bib/burp cloths and stroller blankets that match some of the top selling strollers on the market. I couldn’t help but smile at these photos of the CoZi SAC stylish sleep sack. Featuring a two-way zipper for easy changes, the CoZi SAC is made of a 100% cotton front and super plush back and is machine washable and dryable. Designed to slip over pajamas, it’s all your baby will need to sleep in at night.
When my son was an infant, I never used sheets or blankets in his crib, for safety’s sake. If I used any sort of covering for him, it was a sleep sack. These CoZi SACs are so stylish, they’re hard to resist (even though my son is 5 now and too big for a CoZi SAC, unfortunately!) The CoZi SAC is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and made using non-toxic dyes. All tags are made using recycled paper, and the SAC comes in a reusable CoZi Bag. Available in a variety of colors, you can purchase the CoZi SAC for $54 and see the rest of the CoZibug line at CoZibug.com.

I really love the idea of sleep sacks and some of the patterns are to die for, but I didn’t use any of the cute sacks I bought for my son. I probably should have but I forgot all about them for quite some time and when I finally remembered, he was too big for them or I just couldn’t be bothered. Warm sleepers did the trick. I do think that if he had ended up in his own room, in the crib, sooner he’d have benefited from using a sleep sack. However, he was in his bassinet until he outgrew it. That said, I spotted the Sozo Sleep Sack at thenaturalbabyco.com and fell in love with that bubbly fishy. What a great gift idea at $40! It even has a zipper all the way around, which I’ve never encountered, for easy diaper changes. I think it makes a great travel blanket and keeps baby safe from wandering blankets that might cover her face.

Here’s another great blanket-alternative. Made by Swaddle Designs, the zzZipMe Sack is a wearable blanket that helps reduce the risk of SIDS as babies outgrow swaddling. Made from a soft, fuzzy fabric and trimmed in satin, this sleep sack features a 2-way zipper which makes getting it on and off a breeze and which makes diaper changes easier by keeping the baby snug. As the parent of a baby who hates to be changed or without clothes, I can definitely appreciate this feature.

I am a big fan of sleep sacks. They are safer than blankets when it comes to SIDS, and I find them easier to use than most of the swaddle wraps that I have tried. My middle daughter lived in them when she was an infant, and so far our newborn seems to enjoy them as well. This Groovy Pink Sleep Sack from Babylicious is one of the more festive models that I have encountered. While most of the sacks we own are solid colored, this one features a lively print of pink and green dots that is very modern and cheerful. It is designed to make life as easy as possible, with a two way zipper that allows for simplified diaper changes and a seatbelt slit that allows your child to wear the sleep sack in the car, swing, bouncer, or other infant conveniences that require a seat belt.
This sleep sack is made from a blend of cotton and fleece and is available in both regular and lightweight (spring and summer) versions. It is available in sizes from 0-3 months up to 12-24 months and can be purchased on sale for $30 at AllModern.com.

I have yet to see a product from 3 Sprouts company that is less than adorable. I love the simple lines, many of which have a handmade or vintage look about them, and I love the designs that the company has to offer. This great Bundle Up Sleep Sack is no exception. Available in either pink or blue, each bag is appliqued with three cute little circled of colored felt. The inner layer is quilted for added warmth, while the bag itself helps to reduce the risk of SIDS by eliminating blankets from your child’s sleep environment.
The bag is constructed from a blend of cotton and polyester and is available in two sizes: 0-6 months and 6-12 months. It is completely machine washable. You can purchase one for $55 at LandofNod.com. The company also makes an equally adorable organic version of this bag.
