Teddy Sitter

Here’s an odd but also useful idea for a toy. The Teddy Sitter is an interactive teddy bear that is designed for kids ages 4 to 8. Your child will have fun while Teddy Sitter calls him or her by name. He tells jokes and stories and sings educational songs with your child and acts as a nightlight. Teddy Sitter also functions as a hidden spy camera for parents to check on their kids. This might be helpful if you have to leave your child with a new babysitter and you feel a little uneasy – you can just check on your child remotely. Teddy Sitter will monitor the humidity and temperature in your child’s room and send you pictures as well. Teddy Sitter is scheduled to be released in December 2013, just in time for Christmas. For more information, visit Indiegogo.com.

Suri the Octopus and Friends Teething Toys

Suri the Octopus and Friends teethers were designed by the wife and husband team of Melissa Huang and Mark Caldeira based in Brooklyn, NY. “We wanted to create teethers that looked and felt like toys, and toys that functioned as teethers – since our kids were already chewing on toys and playing with teethers,” explains Melissa. The teething toys are based on the three characters – Suri the Octopus, The Wheel and The Anchor – from the upcoming children’s book, Suri, to be published by Mayapple Baby. Suri the Octopus met The Wheel and The Anchor one day in some faraway sea and now they are traveling the world together. Discover how the friends overcome obstacles and learn about their world – and themselves – as they journey home. Each of the three teethers has multiple sensory points and textures; they are designed to reach both front and back teeth and are easy for babies to grip and manipulate. The teethers have both soft and hard places to bend, bite and chew, making the teethers useful throughout your baby’s teething phases. They are fun to play with, and their shapes, textures and colors inspire imagination. A set of Suri the Octopus and Friends Teething Toys sell for $29.14 at Amazon.com.

Product Recall: Banana Boat Sun Care Products

If you’re like me, you stock up on sunscreen once a season, and might even have some left over that isn’t yet expired at the end of the season. Well, recently I had to pitch the extra Banana Boat Ultra Mist Sport SPF 50 6oz sunscreen I had left over in the trash due to a product recall. Seems that many popular Banana Boat sunscreen products, including those especially for kids, are included in this recall (quoting the FDA) “due to a potential risk of product igniting on the skin if contact is made with a source of ignition before the product is completely dry.” Affected products were sold between January 2010 and September 30, 2012. A complete list of the recalled products can be found at the FDA website.

Make Ur Own Bandages

Inevitably, kids get boo-boos. Sometimes, they need treatment with a bandage. Sometimes, it just makes your child feel better to put a bandage on his boo-boo, even if it’s not necessary. These Make Ur Own Bandages are really cool and work in either case. Adults or kids can design their own bandages, with the provided markers and five different colors of bandages. If nothing else, at least they are different and might bring a smile to you or your child. A package of 20 sells for $5 at OuchiesOnline.com.

Sunstar GUM Star Wars Lightsaber Toothbrushes

Getting your child to brush his or her teeth can be a daily challenge. I think my son would be more likely to rush into the bathroom at tooth brushing time if he had these Sunstar GUM Star Wars Lightsaber Toothbrushes. They include LED lights that flash for 60 seconds in colors specific to each brush’s character (blue for Anakin, red for Darth Vader, green for Yoda). They are manual toothbrushes, but batteries are included for the LED lights. These toothbrushes won’t stretch your wallet, either, as they sell for $3.49 at GumBrand.com.

Krash Bicycle Helmets

My son loves to ride his bike and his scooter, but tries to avoid wearing a helmet if he can get away with it. Of course, when mommy or daddy sees him without his helmet, we force him to go back inside to teach him the lesson that he must wear a helmet at all times while riding on these toys. Maybe if he had one of these cool helmets from Krash he’d be more likely to want to wear it. Krash provides a huge assortment of wild, eye-catching helmets kids actually want to wear, like this Victor Vector style. All helmets are safety-tested and come in various sizes, and each sells for $27.99 at C-Preme.com.

Multi-allergy wristbands are available as well, as are products for adults with allergies. AllerMates sell for $6.99 each at store.allermates.com.

My Big Bibs by Wow Baby!

My Big Bibs by Wow Baby! is a smart all-in-1 bib that converts a regular bib into both a reversible feeding and teething bib. Invented by a mom, this bib is a handy all-in-one feeding tool that is soft, absorbent and keeps baby dry all day. It wipes off easily and has a large front, catch-all pocket. As the bib has a waterproof cover, it would work great for feeding or teething. Each bib is machine washable, and features easy to use adjustable front neck fasteners for infants and toddlers. Mustache Pacifier

I recently saw this in Parents magazine and had to check it out (even though my son is way past the pacifier age). This Mustache Pacifier is so popular that it’s curently sold out at GiveSimple.com (next shipment is expected at the end of June, according to the website). It’s so darn cute, and at $10 an affordable laugh for you and your child. Plus, it’s BPA-free, so you can feel good about giving it to your baby.

Arcade Headphones for Kids

My son loves to listen to his MP3 player with headphones on or watch his travel DVD player in the car. Having headphones on makes sure he doesn’t distract the rest of the passengers. However, I worry about how loud he has the volume at times. These Arcade Headphones by Aerial7 automatically bring the volume back down to 85 decibels, no matter how high your child tries to turn up the volume! This is such a great idea that I can’t wait to try them out. They come in a variety of styles that both boys and girls should love. These headphones aren’t cheap, but if they work in keeping the volume to a healthy level, they’re well worth the price of $35 at Aerial7.com.
