Black Wagon is a fun shopping destination for hip children’s clothing and furnishings. For some reason, this off-the-wall shirt really appeals to me. While I’m not sure I can see sending my child out into the world into this tee, which might inspire more questions than I would care to answer, it definitely made me smile. We have a much-tested (and sometimes protested) rule against cartoon characters on clothing in our house. If, however, I were to make an exception it would be for something like this Morfs Brand Elmo Tee. If ever there was an upscale Sesame Street shirt, this is it. It has a fun hand-made look that escapes much of the over-commercialized aspects of most licensed apparel. It is made from recycled fabrics with sock sleeves, and comes in sizes from 2T to 6. I went on a Misha Lulu buying frenzy a few months ago. I love the fun, quirky looks that this line offers. I’m not usually a fan of writing on children’s clothing, but somehow Misha Lulu makes it work, as is the case with this fun kitty tee. It pairs wonderfully with a full skirt (Misha Lulu or non) or a pair of jeans or cords. You can purchase one on sale in infant and toddler sizes for $27.38 at littlefashionsboutique.com. I’ve also seen quite a few of these shirts on ebay, although the prices tend to approach retail.

I just recently discovered Hurley’s surf-inspired line of clothing for infants and toddlers. I found a great shirt for my infant at TJ Maxx. Unfortunately, I looked at the size wrong, and got home to discover it is too small! I liked it so much, though, that I decided to keep it for gift-giving rather than return it. I was also inspired to check out the company’s Web site, where I discovered many other fun tees. I especially like this silly Many Flahica Tee. It has bright,  crazy critters that are sure to draw a smile. It is available in toddler sizes for $16.00 and infant sizes for $14.00. Check it out at shop.hurley.com. The company also makes clothing for little boys with the same beach aesthetic.

This great shirt from Room Seven is sure to be a hit with princess-minded girls like my middle daughter. Moms who, like me, aren’t crazy about  over-the-top, frilly princess gear, will be glad for the artsy, hip design. I think it is a nice compromise, for sure. Best of all, it is currently on sale. Here is a fun and unexpected look for a toddler or small child. Made by Fauna, this tee features a sepia-colored print of a pigeon on a 100% organic tee. Here is a great deal on a high-quality Zutano tee. Made from 100% cotton, this shirt features a tea set graphic on a pink background. This versatile top would work with jeans, shorts, leggings, or even a skirt. It would also be sweet under a cardigan or layered over a long sleeved shirt. I find the simple clean lines of this polka dot tee from Gap to be quite appealing. It looks like a perfect shirt for casual summer days and would match well with just about any pair of shorts. Here is an adorable t-shirt for the warmer weather that is almost here. These cotton shirts from Mini Boden come in three different colors, each with their own farmyard favorite: Red (pig), Green (cow), and Blue (Hen). Any of these would be a great way to introduce your little one to animal sounds or encourage older babies to join you in a round of Old McDonald. I’m a big fan of simple bright colored shirts like this, and especially love ones that have an envelope neckline which make dressing my fidgety twins so much easier. If you’re a fan of Gwen Stefani, as I am, but can’t afford her Harajuku Lovers clothing line for kids, sometimes you can catch a good sale. I found the 90% cotton/10% spandex Harajuku Lovers Baby 2fer layered tee (alternate side says Harajuku Lovers) for $16.99 at TuttiBella.com. Not bad at 51% off. I tried to access the matching pants for $19.99 at the bottom of the page but continuously was taken to the wrong page (I think it’s an old link.) It’s unfortunate because they were super cute and I’m not sure you can actually grab them up for your little one to go with the top. Only available in 6/9 Month sizes, this layered shirt is a designer shirt at not-so-designer prices.

Whether you are a Beatles fan, an advocate for world peace, or simply someone who enjoys hip kids’ fashions, check out this great short-sleeved shirt from Worn Free.  Made from 100% cotton, this t-shirt is super-soft. It is a replica of the shirt that John Lennon wore to the 1971 Cannes Film Festival.
