Kate Mack is probably best known for bathing suits, but they make some great coats as well. My youngest daughter is sporting an exceptionally-cute Kate Mack coat this winter, and I’ve been looking at their line for older girls as well. I love the fun shape of this pink Razzle Dazzle jacket, and the faux fur collar adds a little extra fun. It is a perfect topper for casual winter looks. Right now, you can purchase this warm winter jacket on sale for $64.80 (down from $108). It is available in sizes from 4-6X. You can check it out at littleposhprincess.com.

This L.L. Bean Ultraplush Jacket is both fun and functional. Made from plush polyester fleece, it is made to be soft to the touch and extra warm. While the look is trendy, the L.L. Bean name gives you confidence in the durability of the product. Now through December 24, when you spend $25 or more at L.L. I am smitten with this Ziggy Monster coat by Tuff Cookie. It is made from polar fleece which looks very cozy. The monster on the pocket, however, is what makes the look. This coat is available in sizes from 12-18 months up to 4 years. You can purchase one for $64 at OlieBollen.com . This is sure to be a conversation starter wherever you go. Coordinating hats are also available.

This Crewcuts Puffy Popcorn Coat is perfect for girls who love comfort and casual style. Big buttons are easyfor small hands to manipulate, while an oversized collar provides extra warmth. This cute, simple coat comes in sizes from 2-12 and retails for $68. You can check it out at jcrew.com.

Stella McCartney has a stellar line of kids’ clothing at the Gap. I love this chic Bow Belt Coat. Available in sizes from 2-5 years, it is sophisticated and classic. It would look great over holiday dresses, but the rich “oxford plum” color is suitable for wear even outside of the holiday season. You can purchase one of these coats, and check out the rest of the Stella McCartney line at gap.com.

My middle daughter has a coat very similar to this one from Guess. I bought it on clearance a few years ago, and for some reason she never wanted to wear it until now (when, of course, it is starting to get too small for her). She looks absolutely adorable in it, however, and I wish we would have put it to use last year. It can easily be dressed either up or down. It works with a dress, but if you pair it with jeans and a sweater, it is equally believable as casual wear. If you like this look, you can purchase one for $59.50 at shop.nordstrom.com. It is available in toddler sizes.

As cold weather returns, I’m reminded of how much I struggled to find a maternity coat last winter. I ended up making do with my existing coats, unfastened (luckily, I don’t get cold very easily). This Gap Maternity Long Peacoat looks like a nice option if you are in that same boat this year. This is the kind of style that can go to the office, but can also be dressed down–which is great if you don’t want to buy more than one maternity coat. It also looks like it will serve well as transition wear–I know I for one was unfortunately unable to fasten most of my coats in the months after giving birth. This versatile coat retails for $148 at gap.com. Based on customer reviews, however, I’d recommend visiting a store to get the sizing right. Hopefully you’ll have better luck finding a Gap with maternity wear than I did!

This Kingsley Black Sheep Jacket will make any little guy as hip as can be. It features a mock collar and is embellished with buttons for an edgy appeal. It looks like it would be nice and warm, too. This jacket is available in toddler and boys sizes. You can purchase one for $150 at RonRobinson.com.

Here is another great coat from Corky & Company. If your little one is a pink princess, this may be the way to go. I love the sweet paisley print, which is feminine without being cheesy. The embellished collar is also a nice touch. This will look great over dresses, but you can easily pair it with casual wear as well. It is available in sizes from 2T up to 6x and retails for $94-$104, depending on size. You can purchase one at forgetmenotkids.com. If you can keep it clean, this one will be great to pass down to a friend or little sister.

Tomat specializes in babies and children’s clothing that is 100% cotton and 100% fun. From the Indonesian word for “tomato,” Tomat is guaranteed to be sweatshop-free and healthy. One of my favorite styles is this Rock On Count Toddler Jacket. This brown jacket with zipper closure is cool and comfortable at the same time. Available in sizes 2T, 4T, and XS, you can purchase this jacket for $32 at TomatKids.com.

I love this simple Birdie Hoodie from Jasper Hearts Wren. I think it would be great for either a boy or a girl this fall. Your little one can wear it as a lightweight jacket or as an all-day layer on cooler days. It would look wonderful paired with jeans and some funky sneakers. You can purchase one in toddler sizes from 2-6 at blackwagon.com, where it retails for $50.

Here’s a great deal on a cute but practical winter coat. Made by Oshkosh B’gosh, this coat is available in either green or white, and in sizes ranging from 4 to 6X. I think it looks fun and super-sporty. While it may not be the best match for dressier outfits, it will look great with sweaters and jeans. You can purchase one for the close-out price of $34.99 at overstock.com. A purple toddler version is available for $32.99.
