Charley Harper’s classic animal illustrations are suddenly all the rage in books and puzzles. The attractive animal images on this wooden peg puzzle invite children to improve their fine motor skills as they learn about the many animals of the world. Designed for children ages 3 and up, it retails for a very reasonable $12.95 at RonRobinson.com. This would make a wonderful gift.

Over the years, my kids have brought home a number of cheap plastic yo-yos from carnivals and birthday parties. Recently, I was purging some clutter and came across some of these virtually unusable toys. It made me think about the fun I used to have with a simple Duncan yo-yo when I was a kid. I couldn’t ever do any impressive tricks, but I had a lot of fun nonetheless. I visited the Duncan Web site and enjoyed looking at all the classic styles. I quite like this vintage Crossed Flag design. I think it would be a great way to introduce my kids to a yo-yo that actually works. You can purchase one of these wooden classics for $11.99 at yo-yo.com.

Absolutely breathtaking, the Cariboo Classic Bassinet complements, rather than standing out among, your bedroom décor. With washable material and two wood finishes (teak or mahogany), it’s pretty, handy, and practical. Baby should be able to spend quite a bit of time in there, as it holds up to 22 pounds. The price of style is high, however, at $359.95 at thenaturalbabyco.com. The site suggests using it as a toy chest after baby no longer sleeps in it; not a bad idea and a good way to get bang for your buck!

Four seems to be the age when children start wanting to help parents with chores. Although the idea of your little one helping to put away dishes might be scary, little hands can help with smaller chores, such as sweeping up or even dusting. This Classic Pretend Play Toy Home Cleaning Set by Fun Time Toys plays to the eagerness in toddlers to help. The set includes a dustpan, handbrush, squeeze mop, and sweeping brush. All four are presented in a gift box. Kids might use this to “pretend” clean, mimicking Mommy or Daddy, but they just might want to help for real after pretending.
Recommended for ages three and up, you can purchase this unique toy set for $24.99 at Amazon.com. It might make it just a bit easier to say yes next time your son our daughter asks to help you out.

I was in elementary school when the Lacoste look hit it big the first time. It seemed that everyone was desperate to have that little alligator. I therefore feel amused, but also a bit nostalgic, when I see this look revisited. This baby blue Lacoste Classic sweater definitely has some 80s appeal, and would look great on either a boy or a girl. You can pair it with jeans or a denim skirt for a preppy casual look. The only downside is its $88 price tag. You can purchase one at milkshop.com. A navy version is also available.

Every child should have the Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit books in their collection. Those stories were among my favorites as a child. This Classic Peter Rabbit Puzzle, Toy, and Book Set by Cricket would make a wonderful gift for any child, and is a great way to introduce him or her to the world of Peter Rabbit. The set includes a Peter Rabbit board book, lightweight blocks that can be combined to make six different puzzles, and a 13 inch plush Peter Rabbit toy. This would be the perfect new baby gift as well. You can purchase this set for $39.99 at Cricketmag.com.

It was around the time that my 4 1/2 year old son became a toddler/preschooler that he started strongly identifying with Daddy much more than before. He wants to do everything Daddy does, talk like Daddy talks, and wear what Daddy wears. My husband loves to wear Timberland boots in the colder weather, which is why I think my son would adore these Classic Toddler Field Boots by Timberland. Just like Timberland’s adult boots, these toddler boots feature extra-soft leather and a lightweight, padded sole. They have a lace closure, and the Timberland logo embroidered on the sides, along with the Timberland tread pattern on the soles.
These boots are available in toddler size 10 at Drjays.com for $45.

I’ve always been partial to animal slippers on children’s feet. They are just so cute and cuddly, and when kids are young, parents can get away with dressing them that way. These Classic Bunny Slippers by Runaway Rabbit are the essence of cuteness. They should be comfortable as well, as the bunny’s body is made of fluffy acrylic and the footbed is soft polyester terry, with a cushioned sole shaped like a bunny footprint. What’s more, this bunny is like a stuffed animal, in that you can pose his ears, brush his soft bunny tail, and ooh and ahh at his button eyes and realistic-looking whiskers.
These Bunny Slippers come in sizes XS (children’s shoe size 7-8) up to XL (youth shoe size 3 to 4). The manufacturer recommends buying these slippers a size larger than your child’s normal shoe size. Imagine the delight on your child’s face when he wakes up on Christmas morning to see this gift under the tree! You can buy Runaway Rabbit Classic Bunny Slippers (which are also available in adult sizes) for $24.99 at RunawayRabbit.com.

Although I have been getting a bit bored with all of the plaid holiday dresses that flood the market this time of year, this sweet little dress from Pottery Barn Kids caught my attention. I think what makes this Collared Plaid Classic Dress stand out over many others like it is the adorable, crisp white color. I love the Peter Pan style, and it really stands out against the dark plaid.
The dress is made from a cotton wool blend that is made to feel as soft as flannel. It comes with matching bloomers, and buttons down the back for easy changes. You can choose from either a red or a green version. I personally am drawn to the green one. You can purchase one for $58 at PotteryBarnKids.com. For an additional $6.50, you can have it personalized. It comes in sizes from 0-3 to 18-24 months.

The Vans Kids Classic Slip-On Set - Infant features a onesie and a pair of Vans Classic Slip-On shoes. I like this style for Halloween: the Baby Skull Bow/Black Pin. The contrasting black and white colors with the touch of pink would be perfect for a baby girl. It comes in infant sizes 1 through 4. If you want to dress your baby this Halloween but don’t want an elaborate costume, add a pair of jeans to this set and she’ll be ready for whatever festivities you have planned.
The classic slip-ons feature a canvas upper and elastic gore sides, making the shoes easy to slip on and off. The set sells for just $26 at Zappos.com. Order yours now if you want your baby to wear it this Halloween!

If you are looking for a simple, hand-crafted shoe that looks great and is good for your little one’s growing feet, check out the Dorado Classic Shoe. The shoes are made from buckskin and are inlaid with a moon and star in leather. The look is simple, classic, and yet definitely upscale. Your child will be able to wear these with many different outfits, and they are appropriate for either a boy or a girl. They feature soft rubber soles and a Velcro closure that makes them easy to get on and off without a fuss. They are made in the USA using only premium leathers.
You can buy a pair of these shoes for $42.95 at Bambinoland.com. They are available in sizes from 5-12.

Sometimes it’s fun to look back to the classics for clothing inspiration. I like the Vintage Mary Classic jacket and pants for dressing a little girl in. I might consider separating the set, so as not to overwhelm with flower pattern, but I can see a little girl looking cute in the whole ensemble.
I am picturing the jacket with jeans and the pants with a simple white top. For sizes 18-24 Months, 2T, 3T, 4T, 5 and 6, it’s $33.95 at frogsfrillsanddaffodils.com.

The Jolie Classic Blanket was “designed for and inspired by Angelina Jolie’s classy and sophisticated style” by Tres Couture. Every baby needs at least one “for show” blanket. My kiddies all had one. As a matter of fact, one of my grown children (I won’t embarrass them) still has their “blankie.”
The Jolie blanket is made of brown satin and pink plush minky and measures 30″x36″. You can buy one for $57.99 at Onespoiledbaby.com.
