Kids like furniture that fits them. It’s more comforting for a child to sit in a chair that fits his body than to be swallowed up by a large, adult-sized chair. This Ava Toddler Chair, by Jennifer DeLonge Children’s Furniture, is perfect for kids up to age 4. The chair measures 19.5″W x 17″D x 20″H (including the back seat cushion) and has an optional ottoman measuring 14.5″W x 11.5″D x 9″H. The Ava Toddler Chair and Ottoman also are available in a variety of fabrics (including microsuede, velvetine, linen and cotton) and colors. While a bit pricey, starting at $299 for the chair and $169 for the ottoman, you know this is a quality piece of furniture that will endure your toddler’s treatment of it (and might just last for his or her younger brother or sister to use as well). You can view the possibilities at JenniferDeLonge.com.

This zid zid kids Vinyl Bird Poof promises to be a lot of fun. Perfectly-sized for kids, this multi-purpose ”poof” can be used as a chair, climber, or rolling toy. The clean, modern design will stand out in any room. I like this bird model, but several other animal versions are also available. I think kids will be immediately drawn to this product. You can purchase one for $78 at designpublic.com.

We were given one of these Cedar Adirondack Chairs for my son when he was about 10 months old and it is still his favorite place to sit, inside and out. Despite having much more comfortable chairs to lounge in, he always goes back to this one. A friend painted a green frog on the front, so it has become even more appealing for him. It is lightweight enough for him to carry from room to room on his own, and yet really sturdy too. This has a weight capacity of 70 lbs, so we have a while to go yet.
You do have to assemble this yourself, but it is well worth the difference in price. They also have a rocking chair version. This would be great to have in your backyard to help your child feel a part of the family gathering in his own big boy chair. These chairs come in a variety of colors, including pink, blue, green, yellow and red and being made of cedar they are great quality. You can find one at Overstock.com for $44.99.

Here is a great chair for the hip and modern toddler. A scaled-down version of an adult-sized rocker, this little chair by Nurseryworks will make your toddler feel grown up and special. The clean, contemporary style will blend in well in any room, whether it is your child’s bedroom or a common area such as a living room or den. The chair measures 19 inches in height and is made from ultrasoft stain resistant microsuede. You can purchase one of these hip chairs for $325 at giggle.com. This would make a wonderful gift.

As I was browsing the Internet, this rocker caught my eye. I like the shape and color, which would be attractive to children and looks to be ergonomically correct for their posture and comfort. As I read further, I saw that the Hiya Rocker is a functional piece of furniture as well. It has a book bin in the back to store books, toys, coloring books, crayons, art gear, remote controls for games, anything you can think of that your child might need while sitting in the Hiya Rocker. It also has an extra-wide seat in case two children want to sit together to read or color. This would look great in a child’s bedroom or even in a family room.
The Hiya Rocker is painted with non-toxic, eco-friendly paint and weighs 15 lbs. It comes in orange (shown above) or white, and does require some assembly. You can purchase this unique rocker for $149 at ModernTots.com.

I’m not too sure about this piece of furniture. The Olga Rocker, designed by Sirch of Germany, is a very unique, unusual, modern slant on a child’s rocker. It is made of a continuous piece of bent birch wood and has a seat made of red woven fabric. It is supposed to be more comfortable than other rockers because of the open space in front. The rocker weighs 10 lbs.
I’d have to try this one out, or have my child test it, before buying it. It is a stunning piece of sculpture and one that would definitely be a conversation starter when guests come to visit. You can view it yourself at ModernTots.com, where it sells for $300.

I like that this picture of the Elise Chaise Lounge includes children because, as a mom, if I had a chaise lounge in my bedroom, I know that my children would lounging on it too. After years of being a mom I think this Elise Chaise Lounge by Pottery Barn Kids would be a welcoming piece to entice my children to join me before bedtime for their favorite story or just to talk about our days. Of course, this is a beautiful piece of furniture for any occasion.
You can view it at PotteryBarnKids.com. The price begins at $1199 depending on the fabric and fill.

I really like the idea of a Time Out Rocker but I’ve yet to put it to the test. Does it make a difference having a designated seat to go with the designated time-out spot? I think it might, in a positive way. It would be a constant reminder to your child that there are consequences, and that’s a very valuable lesson to learn for any of us. The natural rocking motion may also help to soothe nerves. You might like to place a basket or small shelf near the chair with books that teach lessons or books of children’s poetry, or even a journal. Encourage your child to express himself in all situations.
Made by Levels of Discovery, the Time Out Rocker is also available in Pink for little girls who need an occasional time-out. Visit BarefootBella.net, where they are priced at $119.95.

The best feature of this Fast Table Chair by Inglesina is that it enables your child to sit at the table for family- style eating as opposed to the traditional high chair that keeps baby at a distance. It is also a good take-along chair to restaurants where you may have sanitary concerns. You may not be comfortable placing your child in a “public” seat such as the portable high chairs that are provided in restaurants. This would also come in handy at the park picnic table or even while visiting at family and friends.
The Fast Table Chair can be adapted to almost all types of tables. It will hold a maximum weight of 33 lbs., has a storage pouch at the back, and has a safety harness with crotch strap. It is made from 100% polyester and is hand-washable.

Here is a product that serves two purposes–it offers your child a comfortable place to sit, and helps to keep toy clutter at bay. Add to that a clean, unique, modern design, and you have a great little seat in the Roll-Top Chair by Offi.
The chair is made from solid wood and is available in several different colors. I love this deep shade of red. This would be great for a child’s bedroom or playroom, but wouldn’t be out of place in a more grown up setting, such as a living room, either.
If you are up for the $168 price, you can purchase one at mod + mini.

If you are looking for a hip booster seat that is anything but predictable, check out these Boosty Yea! booster chairs. I love the fun prints, the seat looks comfortable, and the laminated fabric seems like it would be super-easy to clean. This would look great in a breakfast nook or kitchen, and several different styles are available to match your decor.
You can purchase one for $68 at Pure and Honest Kids and bring a little style to your table.

Tori Spelling recently showed off her young daughter’s nursery, which includes this fun Luca Glider from Monte. The glider is covered in stain-resistant suede microfiber, which is completely water repellent–a must in most nurseries. The chair comes in a number of great colors, but I love this fun orange fabric.
The chair also comes with a coordinating lumbar pillow which is perfect for new mommies recovering from childbirth. It is an excellent spot for nursing your baby or for rocking him or her to sleep. With its clean modern lines, this glider will make a great addition to your nursery, but can easily transition to just about any room in the house as your child grows. You can purchase one for $895 at MonteDesign.net.

There are quite a few modern and minimalist high chairs on the market these days. The Baby Chair from Artek certainly fits into that category. Designed by Ben af Schulten, this chair is simple but attractive. It is made of birch wood with a natural lacquer, and is designed to blend in with almost any decor.
The only downside of the chair is its price. At $1050, it is significantly more expensive than most other infant chairs on the market. You can purchase the chair at SpunkySprout.com. Red, white, or blue versions are available for an additional $50.

A friend of mine had the Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair for her son and, though it is a very useful chair with some great features, I don’t think it would be the chair for us. I like having a tray attachment on a high chair, because babies make messes and grab things off the family table. I do like the simple lines and sophisticated colors (cherry, red, natural, and black) the chair comes in.
Because of this variety of colors, the Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair will fit it into most decors fairly simply. It is a nice fit at the dinner table for toddlers; earlier on, it’s not quite as convenient.
At $250, it’s not a steal but it’s not overpriced either. Should this chair fit in with your family and lifestyle, you can find it at HannaAndersson.com.

This is an alternative to having baby in a highchair during mealtimes. You know what happens: the highchair usually gets pushed a little off to the side which means baby (and mom’s attention) are off to the side. Meal times might be the only time your family has together - all together- during the busy work and daycare week. Bring everyone to the table!
According to the manufacturer, as long as the baby is able to sit up on his/her own, this Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair is very appropriate (notice the foot rest to avoid dangling feet). It comes with an updated five point harness system and a 7 year guarantee on all wooden components.
Colors include Cherry, Red, Natural, and Black. It costs $230 at HannaAndersson.com.
