It is quite cold where we live, and I have been having all kinds of trouble finding a hat that is small enough for our newborn to wear. Everything ends up falling down in her face and covering up her eyes, which does not please her (and with good reason). I was excited to discover that Janie and Jack’s layette collection includes outerwear in preemie sizes. I particularly like this cable knit sweater beanie, with its soft blue color and classic style. Made from a cotton angora blend, it looks like it would be as soft as can be on a little head. Earflaps and and a chin strap create finish off this adorable look while keeping the hat securely in place. The hat is lined with soft cotton jersey. You can purchase one on sale for $9.99 at JanieAndJack.com. It is available in sizes from preemie to 3-6 months.

Here’s a great gift idea for your favorite infant this holiday season. Every child needs a warm hat and mittens, and some parents are more designer-conscious than others. With the price of this 2 piece Air Jordan Infant Beanie & Mittens Set, one can afford to be designer-conscious. Both beanie and mittens are woven in a lightweight, breathable acrylic material, and both also carry the Jumpman Air Jordan logo embroidered onto them. The set comes in black only, in one size that is supposed to fit all infants. You can purchase this set for just $25 at DrJays.com.

If you have a sophisticated little girl you’ll know because at even at a very young age they tend to dress better than you. This Pink Argyle Visor Beanie Hat by Born to Love Clothing is very sophisticated but also cool. I like the muted colors and the embroidered heart with wings.
This pretty beanie is just in time for the cooler weather It’s available in sizes 6-12 mos., 12-24 mos, 2T-3T, 4T-5T, and 6-7, and can be purchased at UrbanBabyRunway.com on sale for $18.

While looking about babystyle, I stumbled upon something for the music lover. This baby beanie is perfect for a mama with her Ipod always in hand (I am longing for the buggy that hooks up to an MP3 and has speakers). It fits small and medium heads—that’s babies and kids up to 3—and has flaps for protecting those extra-sensitive little ears.
Better suited to boys, in my opinion (and I’ve got two of them), the headphone beanie is $26 at babystyle.com and cute as can be. To top it all off, the eco-conscious, busy mom can be comforted by the 100% cotton, machine washable label inside.

I found this beanie to be a little odd looking. Three randomly placed buttons adorn the hat, reminding me of some sort of strange, three-eyed furry animal, not something I’d soon be placing on my baby’s head. However, Baby Mabel’s Sweet & Sour Hand Knit Beanie is hand-knit and looks perfectly cozy and soft.
Available in sizes newborn and toddler (add $4) and in two colors (blue and pink), it’s something of a conversation starter and certainly something that could be laid in with a gift basket full of other goodies to complete a layette. It’s found at Babymabels.com for $28.00.

I could not resist Boutique hats when I laid eyes on them. They are awfully cute and they come in so many colors, you won’t know which one to choose. However, since they come in sizes 0 to 18 months or Toddler 2T-4T, you could choose one for each month of your child’s pre-school years. Most of us can’t afford that at $21.95, so I say just choose the ones you covet most. The brim is not inhibited by the flower and can be rolled up and down to your liking. I like the Pale Pink and Candy Pink Daisy Flower hats but there are some irresistible Hydrangea hats I’m loving too. Who needs to garden when your child can bloom year round (thank goodness, because I’m no gardener)? I found these little delights at crazyaboutbabies.com.
